Overview

Signs of Life (“the app”) is a safety monitoring application that detects phone movement and sends SMS alerts to a designated contact when no movement is detected. The app is developed by Flying Pigs Software (flyingpigssoftware@gmail.com).

Data We Collect

The app stores the following information locally on your device only:

  • Your name (used to identify you in SMS alerts)

  • One or two emergency contact phone numbers

  • App settings: time limit, sleep schedule, language preference, auto-start preference

No data is ever transmitted to, or stored on, any server operated by Flying Pigs Software or any third party. Phone numbers entered in the app are used solely to send SMS messages directly from your device via Android’s built-in SMS service.

Accelerometer / Motion Data

The app reads your device’s accelerometer sensor to detect movement. Raw sensor readings are processed in real time on your device and are never stored, logged, or transmitted anywhere.

SMS Messages

When an alert is triggered, the app sends an SMS directly from your device to the phone number(s) you configured. The content of these messages is not stored or collected by Flying Pigs Software. Standard SMS charges from your carrier may apply.

Data Retention

All data (your name, contact phone numbers, and settings) is stored exclusively in your device’s local storage (Android SharedPreferences and browser localStorage). This data is retained on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app. Flying Pigs Software retains no copies of your data on any server or cloud service.

How to Delete Your Data

You can delete all data stored by the app at any time using either method:

  • Uninstall the app — Uninstalling Signs of Life from your device permanently removes all locally stored data.

  • Clear app data — On your Android device, go to Settings → Apps → Signs of Life → Storage → Clear Data. This erases your name, phone numbers, and all settings without uninstalling the app.

Because Flying Pigs Software never receives or stores your data, there is no additional deletion request required on our end.

Permissions

The app requests the following Android permissions:

  • SEND_SMS — To send alert messages from your device

  • READ_PHONE_STATE — To detect the default SIM card for SMS sending

  • FOREGROUND_SERVICE / WAKE_LOCK — To keep monitoring running in the background

  • RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED — To restart monitoring automatically after a device reboot (if enabled)

  • POST_NOTIFICATIONS — To display the persistent monitoring status notification

  • CALL_PHONE — To dial emergency services when the emergency button is used

Children’s Privacy

Signs of Life is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

If this privacy policy is updated, the revised version will be published at this URL with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
